NEW YORK — NFL players have reacted to Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam’s firing as head coach, saying the former head coach “deserves” to be fired for racism.
Haslam was fired on Wednesday, following an eight-game losing streak.
Browns owner Tom Heckert said in a statement that Haslam should “be fired.”
“Mr. Hasselas actions have created an environment that is intolerable, and the organization will continue to investigate and respond to these matters as they are determined,” the statement read.
“Mr. Heckert’s response does not make the organization any better.
Haslam, 56, was the Browns’ longest-tenured coach and was a member of the team for seven seasons before his firing. “
The organization will take appropriate action in the context of these events and our focus will continue on supporting Mr. Haslas immediate replacement.
Haslam, 56, was the Browns’ longest-tenured coach and was a member of the team for seven seasons before his firing.
He is the only coach in the NFL to have led a team to two Super Bowl titles and three division titles.
