The White Sox’s Scott Kazmus is on the verge of joining the Cubs as a free agent, but his fate remains in limbo.
The 34-year-old outfielder is scheduled to visit the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The White Sox reportedly have about $13 million in cap space.
Kazmus had a breakout season last year, batting .296 with six homers, 38 RBIs, and an .867 OPS.
His numbers dipped in 2015, but he hit .333 in his final season with the White Sox.
Kawasaki is an eight-time All-Star with the Cardinals.
He played two seasons in Japan, hitting .272 in the Japanese Winter League and batting .305 with 30 homers and 125 RBIs in his first two seasons with the Diamondbacks.
The Cubs reportedly want to keep Kawasaki and he’d be a nice fit with their outfield depth.
