Italia football magazine has called for a full investigation into the actions of the referee and the refereeing team as Croatia defeated Croatia 4:0 at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday night.
In a piece on its Facebook page, the magazine said that after the game, a group of players left the pitch to go for a walk around the training ground and when they returned they found the referee, Marco de Lampedusa, standing on the pitch with a piece of fabric which he folded into a hat.
“I was thinking, ‘How many players did this referee leave behind?'”, the piece reads.
“But then it hit me: what was the referee doing in the middle of the pitch?”
“He was waiting to get the hat off before a Croatian player who’d been fouled, then got on the ball and scored.
Then he was whistling for a penalty, and then he stopped and looked up and saw a Croatian who’d just scored a goal.
This is an exceptional moment.”
Croatia, who have just been eliminated from the European Championship by Russia, are now hoping to get some kind of revenge against the Croatia side who were knocked out of the competition earlier in the tournament.
“It’s a pity that Croatia’s team lost their match against Croatia, but it’s a great moment for Croatia,” said the magazine’s editor, Gabriele Baccus.
“The players are being treated as criminals, the referee is a coward, the match referee is not allowed to act, the team is being treated like criminals, and the Croatian team are not getting a proper reaction to what happened.”
So I’m calling for a proper investigation and to hold the referees responsible for what they did in that match.
“Croatoan media reports suggested that the referee had received a verbal warning after a challenge by a Croatia player, who then went for the ball, before a second incident which led to the referee making a direct decision.”
This referee, who has been suspended, was doing what he was supposed to do, and that’s what I believe he should have done,” Baccu said.”
What we need to do is to get rid of the referees in general, and we need the referee to be held responsible for this.””
We must also get rid at all levels of our football, from the referee down to the players.
